It Ain’t How Deep You Fish but It’s How you Wiggle Your Worm!

It all begins with an idea that today may be the day I catch the biggest fish of my life. Do I used the ole trusty small fry by Bagleys or should I throw that buzz bait on ‘em up shallow? Maybe I should pull a worm just off the banks to see where the fish are? I know, “Let’s do both” I told myself.

Growing up in Valrico, FL with a pond behind the house I gained so many memories on that five acre pond. There are billions of fish out there, but this five acres is my stomping ground. Five acres seemed like a vast ocean to a 7 year old kid that barely new how to throw a bait casting reel, but I had all the time in the day to get those bird nests out when it back lashed. “Find the loop that is holding up the release” I told myself.

Making sure I had the battery charged up the night before in the garage was the most important thing to remember. Well, that and that new knot my dad showed me how to tie that would be my go to for the next 40 years. I was confident and never looked back. The beauty of owning a small gheenoe boat with a Minkota trolling motor as a young boy with access to a pond is that you felt like every fishing trip was your own private voyage. My story of catching the biggest fish I’ve ever landed came on a cast with a mean green lizard. I never knew he picked it up and just joking around, I set the hook on an 8 lb. bass that still to this day holds my personal best. It always reminds me it ain’t how deep you fish but it’s how you wiggle your worm….. even if you don’t know exactly what you’re doing.
